When your dog gets the behaviour right: your dog will be rewarded for a job well done. When your dog is learning the behaviour, the main reward will be food. As your dog’s skill grows, your reward will start to vary from food to petting and calm praise, toys or access to things that they enjoy doing. When your dog gets the behaviour wrong: Nothing will happen. A mistake is simply information for you. Something about the situation is making it difficult for your dog to do what you are asking. My job is to help you identify potential problems and show you how to help your dog succeed. Are there any less invasive alternatives to teaching your dog: Nope. Failure is simply information; it is a time for you to assess what you are doing and make changes. I teach you to achieve and reward success.
